quince

eyes blink
unbelieving, pink flutters
among winter thorns
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
last year's bounty
dying, hope of harvest passed
nearby, new bloom
cold
wind off water
gusts ravage falling twilight
bringing winter home
winter wonders
cascading of white
against silhouetted trees
red bird on bare branch
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

in downy repose
winter falling from grey sky
wrap the quilt closer

sweet repose, midday
unlikely moment of rest
drifting like snowflakes

word power

lissa at just write has sent some blog love with the A Roar For Powerful Words! award. i must list three things that I believe are necessary to make writing good and powerful...
1.
let it flow freely
when the words present themselves
grab pen & paper

2.
write no matter what
words strung together, unknown
falling into place

3.
read others' words
listen to others' critiques
different point of view

& then i must pass this roar onto 5 other writers (never an easy task)...

nap

sweet repose, midday
unlikely moment of rest
drifting like snowflakes

timeless

in your eyes
the early days...soulgazing
your promise of moon, stars
& sun too;
in time
mellowed with age,
heartbeat &
your arms
always enough

rain-soaked

rays piercing the clouds
after day of storm's deluge
just before nightfall
every leaf a jewel
the sky, golden paradox
sundown in the mist

sweet sorrow lounging
by cold winter's stormy night
fire to warm the hands

growing...for Rosie

daddy's red roses
climbing higher than the sky
breathe deeply of love

spy over the fence
other garden overflows
my neighbor, my friend

lounging in fresh grass
she teaches me more than weeds
cultivating love

we are years apart
yet in the garden, best friends
filling the birdbath

let it stand, she said
tired hands cease the weeding
garden overgrown

next visit inside
medicinal smells looming
long for fragrant blooms

last visit too soon
ghostly figure sounds like her
words bloom in the end

my little girl's heart
breaks into million pieces
oak grows from the weeds

afterthought

how much of myself
did i leave behind
in the movement
fast forward
before the call,
before a thought?
patience is a virtue
recognized in hindsight

falling

distant melancholy
channel bouy's rise & fall
like the slumbering breath
steady in quiet night
last sound before i drift
on night dream waters
traveling east
to meet tomorrow's sun

waxing

new moon in the sky
winking from the horizon
smiling on twilight

settling

through the maze
of my own banter
mingling with the all around,
my mind begins to quiet
as with a cup of tea
on a sunlit porch swing,
left by the wayside
of life's endless chatter
i gratefully hear
only the squeak
of solitude's springs.

giving

more blessed to give
light of joy in others' eyes
soul satisfaction
each glance reminds me
you know what pulls my heartstrings
your gift of the heart

darkness

wholehearted seeking
is a thrill
and a fear;
the letting go
often euphoric
until darkness,
then, trembling.
do you trust
what you remember
from before
the sun rose?
do you remember
what you saw
before the veil
of your eyes closed?
seeds grow in the dark
not in harsh light;
they embrace
the mystery
and reach the light
just when;
the dark is not fallow ground.

vision

rushing through the crowds
do i see behind the eyes
of your great burden

beauty of advent

solitary flame
a candle better than curse
the beauty of one
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
now the light is two
in the deepening winter
the circle widens
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
rose candle joins flame
the wait is almost over
third week of advent
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
circle of complete
illuminating darkness
four lights shining bright
twelve days of poetry project
to sit in quiet
absorbing winter silence
december twilight
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
one innocent babe
born two thousand years ago
world forever changed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hustle and bustle
sea of humanity flows
winter wander-land
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
tropical weather
childhood winters must make do
northern state of mind
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
still and silent night
crunch of snow-pack under foot
homing feels so good
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
cold of december
forgotten in season's hope
bearing peace and love
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
strings of light delights
hope in a rainbow of shine
hugging Christmas tree
delicate handling
dreaming of what you will be
autumn's sweet success
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
panna cotta smooth
vanilla and cranberry
season of delight
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
perfect flaky crust
nestling creamy pumpkin
dollop of whipped cream
hope
in winter we find
a tender moment of light
through the long darkness
container
half empty, half full
life poured forth into the glass
only you decide
waiting to be filled
with food and conversation
drink it in deeply
once whole and unlined
now broken by tides of time
beautiful in spite
grace
movement of grace
waters of complacency
ripple from center
Monday, November 26, 2007
pebbles
hard edges of life
tumbled about in current
smoothed by time's passing
Friday, November 23, 2007
passing
six years you've been gone
memories flood through this month
nobody's child now
adventure
boarding pass in hand
release from ordinary
wings carry away
words swirling around
countenance of perplexion
in a foreign land
the face of kindness
in spite of the foreign sounds
on the heart remains
dare to take the path
find directions in your heart
adventure awaits
ramble
leafy autumn search
on the byways of my heart
red and gold treasures
